Collector Car Showcase Moves from Third to Second Sunday in August [PEBBLE BEACH, CALIFORNIA, August 22, 2025] ­­­­— The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is moving to a new date on the calendar beginning in 2028. For most of the past three decades, with rare exception, the Pebble Beach Concours has taken place on the third Sunday in August. But in 2028, the event will move one week earlier, to the second Sunday in August. The primary factor, as Concours Chairman Sandra Button explained to the event’s volunteers this week, is the fact that schools across the nation are starting earlier, precluding attendance at the Concours for many families. The Concours has fielded repeated requests for an earlier date from entrants, judges, volunteers, and spectators who want to attend the event with their children—but find that increasingly difficult. “Parents want to share their love of cars with their kids, and we want to make that more possible,” said Button. “When we look at the calendars for Pebble Beach, for other Concours, and for other local large events, a simple move forward by one week lessens the conflict for many. “Of course, we want to get the word out early because so many other events and businesses make plans in relation to the Concours.” In coming years, the Concours will take place on August 16, 2026; August 15, 2027; August 13, 2028; August 12, 2029; and August 11, 2030. The Pebble Beach Concours first took place on November 5, 1950, and then was held in the spring and early summer in ensuing years. It tried to return to a fall date in the late 1950s but was pushed back to the spring after being rained out in 1960. It first jumped to August in 1967 and was held most often on the fourth Sunday for years.
